Our strategic priorities

  • Indigenous health – particularly services, initiatives and research that improve the health and wellbeing of urban indigenous people and provide work experience and training for young indigenous people in the health sector.
  • Early intervention – particularly services, initiatives and research on intervention from zero to five years.
  • Carers health – particularly services and initiatives that support young carers.
  • Mental health – particularly services and initiatives that benefit the physical health of mental health sufferers.
  • Acute health – particularly transition services, home based care, equipment and facilities to improve the stay of families of rural and remote patients.
  • Crisis health services – particularly services and initiatives that focus on suicide and violent and sexual assault
  • Disaster events – There may be circumstances under which a grant may be made in the wake of a disaster.

Our criteria

The Board has determined that applications for research funding will be assessed against the potential of the research outcome to meet the essential and non-essential criteria.

Applications must address all of the essential criteria and it is preferable that they meet one or more of the optional criteria.

Essential Criteria:

  • A significant number of people have the potential to benefit. The Board is satisfied that a sound evidence base exists to support the benefits of such a service/initiative.
  • The funding will complement, rather than duplicate, other funding sources.
  • The service/initiative is well-aligned with The Foundation’s strategic priorities.
  • The initiative does not require ongoing or recurrent funding to succeed, or such ongoing and recurrent funding has been secured by the recipient to the satisfaction of the Board.
  • Is able to meet an unmet demand or solve a problem.
  • Is feasible and has a clear outcome.

Optional Criteria

  • One or more high-need population groups will benefit.
  • The service/initiative has potential for wider dissemination or impact.
  • The service/initiative is innovative and unique.
